September and October 2011 were special races to organise. I knew these were going to be the last ones. Yet we could not announce it publicly.

First there were doubts about how the National Federation would react to it. If they'd see it as yet another opportunity to stamp us further down and intensify their campaign of illegitimity, then we would be in more trouble.

We also knew the community was quite sensible about us. Their expectations were high and they depending largely on us for all things triathlon related. We wanted to avoid having to face their questions and anger while still having to organise the races.

We decided to keep it quiet. We announced the end of the Schiniathlon (& Hop Ltd) only by Newsletter and Press Release after the races were over and done with. It was quite an emotional process to go through.

We knew most of the athletes, hundreds of them, by their first names. We had developed a very close bond to the community, of which we were a primary engine... Announcing the end was a small death and messages of support and testimony flew right through...
