July 2010 - Full Moon Aquathlon - Sprint distance

Full Moon Aquathlon – 138 athletes – Alex Antonopoulos & Maria Kamizaki win

The event consisted of 750m swim followed by 6km run on the beach. The particularity of the event is that it takes place under the full moon and the start is given just before the day light vanishes.

Equiped with phosphorescent gear a brave pack of 138 athletes lined up on the beach.

First out of the water in 11mn45 was Dimitris Manolakenas. He was followed by Christos Igglezos and Alex Drimonakos, all in less than 12 minutes.

Alex Antonopoulos got out in 4th position from the water and ran off his competitors to finish in 1st position overall in 38mn30.

Markos Pachos crossed the finish line 1mn30 later, followed very closely by Panagiotis Dimouleas (3rd), Giannis Psarelis (4th) and Dimitris Manolakenas (5th). These 4 athletes arrived within 9 seconds over the finish line!!

The women’s field was led by Maria Kamizaki in 48mn52. Elena Makridi came 2nd in 51mn05, followed by Semeli Antipa in 51mn25.

The race was followed by a full-moon barbecue and music, the occasion for all the athletes to chill out together, socialise and talk about racing plans!

Rendez vous for the last Schiniathlon of the season on 19/09/2010, with a Sprint and an Olympic Triathlon!
