For the 1st time in May 2007, Marie Leautey organises the "Triathlon of Schinias Bay" with the help of Dimitris Moraitis. Dimitris offers his resort and various help to get the event going. 

We contact in all naivety the National Federation, to inform them about the race. That's when we start understanding that the National Federation might be the sole reason behind why there is no triathlon in Greece...

Their attitude is one of total refusal to support any initiative going towards developing the sport. They use threats (legal) againts potential organisers to deter them from attempting anything. They have self-appointed themselves the sole legal triathlon organiser in the country and they only organise two races a year reserved to the few athletes who are signed up to one of their obscur and dormant clubs. These races take place on the very same ground every single time. No spectators, no amateurs, never has an event gathered more than 40 competitors. The filtering is elitist. The sport is ultra confidential and there is no intention to change the situation. This is the situation as we pick it up in 2007, right from the start... 

Threatened by the National Federation who refuses to let us use the word "triathlon" we rename our event at the last minute to "Schiniathlon". This is the contraction of "Schinias" (the Bay where the event is held) and "Triathlon" quite simply the sport we are trying to enjoy and share... And against the odds we hold our first race...
