Sunday 13th of June ½ Ιron distance Swim-Bike-Run Challenge

Distances:
1900m open sea swim – 90km bike – 21,1km run

Registration:
Closed Sunday 30th of May.

 

Accomodation - Area

Entry criteria:
We have accepted registrations of athletes who have completed succesfully at least one triathlon within the last two years regardless of achievement, or an endurance sport event with more than two hours of duration for the winner of the event (a Marathon run or swim or bike event, at which the event-winner did more than two hours).


EVENT RULES

Event’s time limits:

  • Swim: 1h10 (by 9h10 all the athletes must have completed the swim)
  • Bike cut off: All cyclists must complete at least the 1st lap (45kms) no later than 12:00
  • Swim & Bike combined: 5h15m (by 13:15 all the athletes must have finished the bike part)
  • Swim & Bike & Run: 8hrs (by 16:00 all the athletes must have finished the event)
  • Athletes finishing the event later than 16:00 will be marked as DNF (Did Not Finish).

Eco-Zones: With the supervision of the "run4green" eco-group we will establish special zones where particiapting athletes will be able to get rid of their bottles-packaging. This way we will avoid littering, but also encourage collection of these materials for recycling.

All participants should respect these zones and should not through garbage and packaging materials outside the designated eco-zones.

 

Athletes who do not succeed to perform within the specified time limits, will have to handover their BIBs to the race marshals and withdraw from the event.

  • Drafting policy
    Drafting on the cycling part is ILLEGAL for this race. The rule will be supervised by marshals on motoribikes. Participants who are drafting during the race will receive a warning and if they do not conform immidiately they will be marked for time penalty of 10 minutes. The penalty will be served at the transition area.
  • Safety on the bike
    No helmet = no race!
    MP3 and any electronic device is forbidden on the bike
    The cycling is supervised by the police but roads are open to car!!
    You are required to OBEY traffic regulations at all times. Stay in your lane, slow down when approaching dangerous turns on the downhills, keep control of your bike. Respect warning signs.
  • External support
    All form of external support is forbidden. Athletes are not allowed to be accompanied or followed on the bike, on the run or have technical or food support.
  • Bib number placement
    Throughout the race athletes must wear their BIB numbers visibly.
    Swim: swim cap with the number on the right side of the head.
    Bike: bike number in front of the bike, BIB number at the back of the athlete (elastic band to attach bib number is provided by the organizers).
    Run: BIB number must be displayed at the front (turn the elastic band from back to front when you start running).

Water Stations:

  • Transition Area: permanent station throughout the event with: Water – GU Brew Isotonic – Bananas - Salty crackers
  • Bike every 22.5km: station with: Water (in bike bottles) – GU Brew Isotonic (in bike bottles)
  • Run every 3.5km: station with: Water (plastic cup) – GU Brew Isotonic (plastic cups) – Bananas - Salty crackers

Event Timeplan
The event will start at 08:00am exactly. The race briefing will be held at 07:30am.
Timeplan for the ½ Iron distance challenge:

  • Race pack pick-up & Bike Check-In at Transition Area:
    Saturday 12th June from 14:30pm till 20:30pm at the transition zone in Astros.
  • Athletes will have access to their bikes on Sunday 13th morning from 7:10am till 7:30am (to place water bottles and pump tyres).

Time-Keeping:

The times of the athletes will be recorded at the following points:

  • Exit of the water entering transition area.
  • Departing transition area with the bike
  • First loop of the bike 45km (passing outside transition area)
  • Entry to transition area with the bike after 90km
  • Exit of transition area to start running
  • First loop of the run 7km (passing outside transition area)
  • Second loop of the run 14km (passing outside transition area)
  • Finish 21km

Participation Fee:
Entry to the event is subject to the payment of a 60 Euro fee and all payments must be done following the registrations in order to validate your registration.
Athletes who are members of the “Schiniathlon Team 2010” beneficiate from a 10 Euro discount on their fee.

Awards ad Prizes by categories:

1st Greek overall: Free Entry to Antwerp ½ Ironman in Belgium 25th July 2010 (flight ticket, hotel for 3 nights, event entry Fee)

Age Groups - Trophies:

  • Men <35 y-old: Top 3 (born 1976 or after)
  • Men 35-45 : Top 3 (born 1975 – 1965)
  • Men >45 : Top 3 (born 1964 and before)
  • Women: Top 3 regardless of age
